Consistency was elusive for the Golden State Warriors last season, and they barely made it into the NBA play-in tournament. The lineup that included Draymond Green desperately needed backup, and one man—a former Warrior—thinks he’s the man with the plan.
Baron Davis guested on ‘The Draymond Green Show’, and the former two-time NBA All-Star point guard voiced his interest in rejoining the organization as a player.
“I’d make the team. I can make the Warriors,” said Davis. “You ain’t seen a fat point guard?”
“You gotta get in some shape,” replied Green, humoring his guest.
The Golden State Warriors already have the best point guard in Steph Curry, who is slated to return to the organization after a highly successful gold medal campaign in the Olympics. They also have younger guards, including Gary Payton II, Brandin Podziemski, and De’Anthony Melton, so it may be quite a hurdle for the 45-year-old Davis to overcome should he be seriously considering a comeback.
Davis last played in the NBA with the New York Knicks in 2012. He injured his right knee in May of that year while playing against the Miami Heat in Game 4 of the first round of the playoffs.
Golden State Warriors to give Draymond Green a bigger role
Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry ushered in a golden era for the Golden State Warriors, winning four NBA championships over eight seasons together. But with Thompson deciding to move to the Warriors’ rival in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks, the team will start the next season with a new lineup.
While it was a huge blow to the squad, the Warriors will still have enough talent to carry the team. Green had no hard feelings for his former teammate’s decision.
“The reason I’m happy he’s gone is because he wasn’t happy no more. As a brother, I only want what’s best for you, not what’s best for me, not what’s best for this team,” said Green in an episode of the Club 520 podcast.
Green and Curry will take on bigger roles in the team next season, with Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins also stepping up to the plate. Podziemski is also starting to evolve into one of the league’s top shooting guards, so he will also be a reliable scoring machine.
Despite Thompson leaving, Warriors fans can still expect their team to be a force to be reckoned with in the 2024-25 season.
