For the longest time, All-Star shooter Klay Thompson has been synonymous with the Golden State Warriors after spending the past 13 seasons there. After his departure, controversial forward Draymond Green reflected on their time spent playing together and the brotherhood that formed out of it.
The Dallas Mavericks have recently acquired Thompson in a complex six-team trade. The deal also involves the Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Denver Nuggets.

In the trade, the Mavericks received Thompson in a sign-and-trade, as well as a 2025 second-round pick. The Warriors acquired Kyle Anderson (via sign-and-trade) and Buddy Hield (via sign-and-trade). The Hornets got Josh Green, Reggie Jackson, the Nuggets’ 2029 second-round pick, and the Nuggets’ 2030 second-round pick.
The Timberwolves received a 2025 second-round pick, a 2031 second-round pick swap with the Warriors, and cash from the Warriors. The Sixers acquired the Mavericks’ 2031 second-round pick, while the Nuggets got cash from the Hornets.
The complex nature of the deal allowed the Warriors to maximize their return by using Thompson’s outgoing salary to match salaries for both Anderson and Hield. This provided more flexibility than executing the trades separately.
Overall, the trade significantly reshuffles the rosters of multiple contending teams, with the Mavericks landing a proven championship-caliber player in Thompson to bolster their lineup.

Along with All-Star point guard Stephen Curry, Green and Thompson formed the main core of the Warriors for over a decade. Their time together resulted in four NBA championships, a number of historic records made, and a dynasty that saw the team dominate most of the late 2010s.

In a couple of months, Green will soon face Thompson as part of the Mavs. Even if that’s the case, both stars will remains brothers no matter what happens on the court.
