Following Thursday night’s eye-opening 110-99 victory against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, the Golden State Warriors have now logged their 11th win in 14 February games. At this point, it’s safe to say that the Dubs are rolling right now.
Draymond Green’s return to the lineup has been integral to Golden State’s recent success, but even the former Defensive Player of the Year is adamant that he’s not the main reason why the Dubs have been racking up the wins. It’s not Stephen Curry either.
Golden State Warriors Star Draymond Green Sings Jonathan Kuminga’s Praises
To be fair, it was Curry who led the charge yet again on Thursday against the Knicks. The greatest shooter of all time finished with a game-high 31 points on 11-of-26 shooting, to go along with eight triples, 11 rebounds, an assist, and a steal in another majestic performance in Madison Square Garden.
However, there’s no denying that Jonathan Kuminga (25 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks) played a crucial role in Golden State’s victory. As a matter of fact, Green is adamant that a lot of the Warriors’ recent success can be attributed to Kuminga’s rise:
“JK is a star. He’ll be an All-Star in this league for a long time,” Green said, via Jack Winter of ClutchPoints. “He’s playing confident, he’s playing with force on both ends of the floor and that’s what he’s gonna be great at. He’s not gonna be a guy who can just give it to you on the offensive end, he’s gonna be able to hold his own on the defensive end and shut guys down, even more so than just holding his own. It’s been great to see his growth. A lot of people are talking about me coming back in the lineup and that’s why we’re winning; I think we’re winning because of the growth of Jonathan Kuminga.”
I see no lies here.
At the end of the day, Steph is gonna Steph. However, what is clear is that the former back-to-back MVP cannot do it alone. He will need as much help as he can get, which at this point, is starting to come in the form of Golden State’s youth revolution.
You can be sure that Kuminga is at the forefront of this surge.
