Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green had a tense exchange with a reporter on Monday during the team’s Media Day. The heated back-and-forth between Green and the reporter started when the latter suggested fans and players are “worried” about Green’s availability after being suspended a few times.
“Why they worried about me? I’m a successful black man in America doing incredibly well. What’s to worry about?” Green said via 95.7 The Game on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I’m here. I’ve been here for 13 years now. I’ve been here pretty much every night for 13 years.”
“The guideline of getting suspended is something that’s in place because it’s a possibility. It’s all about how you spin it. I love how you trying to spin it, but it ain’t my spin to it, player. But yeah, it’s good,” he added.
Draymond Green is not a stranger to being suspended, especially last season. He was given a five-game suspension for his scuffle with Rudy Gobert before the league committee handed him an indefinite suspension, which lasted for 12 regular season games.
Overall. Green played 55 regular season games in 2023-24, averaging 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game on 49.7 percent shooting from the field.
Draymond Green raves about the Golden State Warriors’ new look
During the same press conference, Draymond Green expressed his optimism about this year’s group, even if it’ll look a “little different” following the departure of Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks this offseason.
“It’s just going to look a little different now. Where there’s the most uncertainty, that’s usually the biggest opportunity for growth,” Green explained.
To Green’s point, the Golden State Warriors tried to compensate for the loss of Thompson by adding Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Lindy Waters III and re-signing Stephen Curry to a huge one-year extension.
