Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently appeared on the Dan Le Batard Show to address the Draymond Green-Jordan Poole punching incident that torpedoed the team’s dynastic run for nearly a decade.
Kerr admitted he was so angry at Draymond Green for what happened and said that specific incident was one of the most challenging moments of his head coaching career.
“There are a lot of examples. But for sure, the Jordan Poole incident stands out. He crossed the line with Jordan, and he knew it immediately. That made the season incredibly difficult for everybody,” Kerr admitted.
After winning their fourth NBA championship in 2022, the Golden State Warriors made headlines for the wrong reasons when Draymond Green struck Jordan Poole during practice, which was video recorded and leaked online. The Dubs eventually traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul, and the team has never been the same since then.
The Golden State Warriors missed the playoffs last season as the Sacramento Kings eliminated them in the play-in tournament following a 46-36 record. They suffered another huge loss in free agency when club icon Klay Thompson left for the Dallas Mavericks.
Can the Golden State Warriors make it back to the postseason?
The Golden State Warriors tried to compensate for the loss of Klay Thompson by adding Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Lindy Waters III. While those moves are nice to bolster their overall depth, they do not exactly move the needle, especially in a stacked Western Conference.
The team will continue to rely heavily on Stephen Curry, whom they’ve given a massive one-year, $62.6 million extension. Curry, 36, averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists with 45/41/92 shooting splits in 74 regular season games in 2023-24.
