Golden State Warriors: Steve Kerr Believes Draymond Green Has a Big Role in Game 3

The Golden State Warriors find themselves in a tough situation with their playoff hopes.

Stephen Curry’s hamstring injury threw a wrench into what was supposed to be a well-oiled plan of attack. Without their star guard creating problems for Chris Finch’s men, they stumbled to put together a strong enough resistance against the Timberwolves as they limped back to Chase Center with a 1-1 series.

Warriors fans know their team needs everyone on the roster to step up to the plate and secure at least one win at their home floor. Jimmy Butler must lead the Curry-less Warriors into an inspired win against a Timberwolves side led by Anthony Edwards.

However, Steve Kerr thinks another veteran presence will step up in Curry’s place and keep the Warriors afloat until his return.

Steve Kerr believes Draymond Green will step up for the Golden State Warriors in Game 3

Draymond Green had a decent game in the 93-117 defeat. He ended the night with nine points, four boards, five assists, one steal, and one block. While these numbers are fine, they aren’t acceptable when your star player is out of commission.

His technical foul against Naz Reid and postgame moment, where he had a few choice words to the media after sustaining verbal abuse from a Timberwolves fan, also raised eyebrows on whether he can lead the Warriors without Curry.

However, Kerr thinks Green will be able to use his leadership skills to give Golden State some much-needed breathing room against the visiting Timberwolves.

Per NBC Sports Bay Area’s Ali Thanawalla:

“I don’t think it will impact the game,” Kerr told reporters on a conference call Friday afternoon. “I wasn’t aware of what happened, in terms of the fan, like the insults, until I read about it this morning. I talked to him about that and we did talk about the technical counts and just the whole set of circumstances, but I know Draymond well. He’s going to be ready to go tomorrow. He’s going to play a great game.

“He understands where we are in the series and we have this great opportunity. It’s 1-1 and we’ve got home-court advantage. We got our home crowd tomorrow. So he’s excited. I’m excited and we moved past all that stuff.”

Regardless of what people say about him, Green is a proven champion and has been in tighter situations than the one he’s currently in. Warriors fans will be confident that their long-time forward will be back to his usual best and help the team stem a strong Minnesota attack in Game 3.
