Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson Gets Real About Brandin Podziemski’s Future Amid Rookie’s Brutal Miss In Loss To Chicago Bulls

A day after scoring a big win over the Milwaukee Bucks, the Golden State Warriors took a surprising stumble at the hands of the Chicago Bulls at home on Thursday. The Warriors fell prey to Chicago, 125-122, and it’s a setback rookie Brandin Podziemski will not soon forget.

Podziemski thought he was going to tie the game with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation but his layup attempt with his left hand missed.

What looked like a game that was going to overtime immediately became an obvious victory for the visitors. Podziemski surely would love to have another try at that, but for his teammates, particularly Klay Thompson, the botched shot shouldn’t at all dictate the first-year guard’s mood.

After the game, Thompson made it clear that he is still a big believer of Podziemski.

“One missed shot isn’t going to alter my view of him in that situation. I know he’ll have plenty of huge moments in his career. Plenty of game-winners, Thompson said of his rookie teammate, per 95.7 The Game.

“We all go through it… He’ll be fine. That was a great look.”

Podziemski finished the Bulls game with 11 points on 4/7 shooting from the floor with four rebounds and four assists with a steal in 27 minutes of action.

Thompson, on the other hand, had 25 points on 9/21 shooting coming off the bench. Podziemski has taken the regular spot of Thompson in the Golden State Warriors’ starting unit but it appears that the veteran is at peace with his newfound role for the Dubs, who dropped to 33-29 and 17-16 at home following the loss to the Bulls.

What Golden State Warriors Rookie Brandin Podziemski Said About His Missed Layup In The Clutch Against The Bulls

Podziemski talked about his crucial miss following the game, revealing the reason why switched to his left hand during the attempt (via Michael Wagaman of NBC Sports Bay Area).

“Honestly, when I was going to the rim I thought (Vucevic) was still behind me,” Podziemski told NBC Sports Bay Area. “In hindsight I looked back at the replay and Trayce (Jackson-Davis) kind of clipped him, so I was really wide open. But since I thought he was behind me and he could have chased it down and blocked it if I used my right hand, because that’s what he would expect, that’s why I tried to scoop it quick with the left. I didn’t know Trayce kind of hit him.
