It’s safe to say that there’s plenty of positivity surrounding the Golden State Warriors in the upcoming season.
Their failure to make the playoffs highlighted key issues that the Dubs badly needed to address. The team quickly moved to address one major problem that reared its ugly head this season, letting team favorite Klay Thompson join the Dallas Mavericks and bringing over Buddy Hield to take his place.
While there are still plenty of issues surrounding the team (such as how they can maximize Jonathan Kuminga’s talents), there’s an air of positivity surrounding the squad. However, they feel like they’re still a piece away from returning to their status as contenders in a cramped Western Conference.
One of the moves the front office feels can help the squad make the jump is the acquisition of Lauri Markkanen. The forward has been linked with a move to the Warriors for the longest time, though the Utah Jazz are reportedly considering their options in trading him.
A recent update might give some Warriors fans hope, though.
Report: Golden State Warriors are still interested in Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen
According to a Basketnews piece, the Warriors are still in the running to get Markkanen from the Jazz, explaining why the Dubs are seriously interested in getting the deal done before next season starts:
The Finnish forward’s performance has made him a highly sought-after player, and his addition would significantly bolster the Warriors’ lineup, potentially enhancing their championship aspirations.
Markkanen’s versatility and scoring ability could provide the Warriors with the offensive and defensive boost they are looking for.
However, the biggest obstacle to pulling the trigger on the trade is their hesitation to send Brandin Podziemski in exchange. The young shooting guard had a solid debut campaign for the Dubs, averaging almost 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 74 appearances for the Warriors.
The Warriors understand that they need to decide sooner rather than later because they’re not the only squad interested in the Finnish star’s services. A valuable forward who averaged 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists last season on 48.0% shooting and 39.9% from distance doesn’t become available that often.
Golden State Warriors fans hope that an amicable solution can be found that will allow them to get Markkanen without gutting their roster too much.
