Golden State Warriors news: All eyes are on the Olympics right now as basketball fans eagerly anticipate Team USA’s quest for a gold medal against international competition. For their part, however, the Warriors are still working hard behind the scenes to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The number one priority on their list is still All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen, who apparently, might not be available on the trade market after all.
Golden State Warriors News: Utah Jazz Planning to Pair Lauri Markkanen With Brandon Ingram?
Apart from Markkanen, one of the biggest names that has been mentioned in trade rumors is New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram. As it turns out, the Utah Jazz could be in the market for the former Most Improved Player of the Year winner.
According to a report by NBA insider Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports, the Jazz could potentially pair Ingram with Markkanen to form a new-look frontcourt.
“The Jazz are a potential team to monitor for Brandon Ingram, per [Pelicans reporter Christian Clark of NOLA News].
“If Utah signs Lauri Markkanen to a new long-term contract in August, they could pivot to a win-now move acquiring Ingram,” Sidery reported.
A Markannen-Ingram pairing would be a formidable force for the Jazz, and this could potentially propel them to contender status in the Western Conference.
This could be bad news for the Warriors and their pursuit of Markkanen, who all of a sudden could be taken off the trade block by the Jazz. Based on reports, Utah remains open to the possibility of parting ways with their prized star, but they are in no rush to trade him away.
Apparently, they are also not closing the door on potentially extending Markkanen’s contract and keeping the 27-year-old as their cornerstone superstar for the foreseeable future.
