While it was Klay Thompson’s stunning departure that dominated free agency headlines for the Golden State Warriors, we also must not overlook the fact that Chris Paul also took his talents elsewhere this summer.
The veteran point guard may not reached the same heights Thompson did during Paul’s brief tenure with the Warriors, but there’s no denying that the 39-year-old was still an integral part of the roster last season.
Just ask Draymond Green.
Golden State Warriors News: Draymond Green Praises Spurs for Chris Paul Coup
Ultimately, it was the San Antonio Spurs who landed Paul after he was waived by the Warriors. Dubs star Draymond Green has now spoken out about CP3’s departure and what this means to him on a personal level. The former Defensive Player of the Year also made his thoughts on San Antonio’s new signing abundantly clear:
“This is the part of business that suck. One year with C and I’m like, ‘Man, I really love this dude. He incredible. One of the best teammates I ever had.’ And then he gone,” Green said of Paul. “… That is a genius move by the Spurs.”

Green had nothing but high praise for Paul as the former expressed his confidence in the 12-time All-Star finding success in San Antonio. The Spurs are not going to contend for a championship this coming season but as Draymond pointed out, their young studs such as Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle are going to greatly benefit from having a veteran like Paul guiding them through this critical stage of their respective careers.
