The Golden State Warriors made their signing of Buddy Hield official on Thursday. Ultimately, the Dubs agreed on a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers to get their hands on one of the most dangerous sharpshooters in the NBA today.
Apparently, one team that attempted to recruit Hield was the Los Angeles Lakers. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard, however, had no intention of joining LeBron James and Co. in Hollywood.
Golden State Warriors News: Buddy Hield Shunned Lakers in Favor of Dubs
According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Hield’s decision to take his talents to the Bay Area was motivated by his desire to win his first career championship — something that apparently, he did not believe was feasible with the Lakers:
“Hield chose the Warriors because of the opportunity to win, per league sources. His suitors included the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers,” Shams wrote.
Hield obviously isn’t going to win with the rebuilding Pistons, but it appears that he feels the same way about the Lakers. Not that LA is at the same level as Detroit, but what Hield has made abundantly clear in his decision here is that he believes the Warriors are more capable of winning it all this coming season as opposed to the Lakers.
Whatever the case might be, LA has once again failed in their pursuit of another high-profile free agent. The summer has not been good for the Purple & Gold thus far.
