Like the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, the Golden State Warriors really didn’t come out as winners during the past few months. This prompted NBA reporter David Dennis to hit the franchise with a harsh reality involving free agency this year.
The Warriors’ offseason moves signify a strategic shift, as they build a bridge to the next era of the franchise. By letting go of veteran stars like Klay Thompson and Chris Paul, the team has freed up cap space and roster flexibility.
Under the guidance of general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., the Warriors have infused younger talent, including acquisitions like De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, and Buddy Hield. This transition aims to maintain competitiveness while positioning the team for long-term success, rather than a sudden, dramatic “last dance.”
Importantly, Golden State retained their core in All-Star guard Stephen Curry and controversial forward Draymond Green, ensuring continuity and a foundation for the next era. The offseason moves have put the team in a more sustainable financial situation, enabling them to potentially make a big move, such as targeting Lauri Markkanen from the Utah Jazz, before the trade deadline.
While the Dubs may not be title favorites immediately, Dunleavy’s approach suggests a methodical plan to bridge the gap between the team’s championship past and its promising future, giving Curry and others the opportunity for additional farewell moments.
NBA Reporter David Dennis Blasts Golden State Warriors After Lackluster NBA Offseason
While they have added talented pieces to the team, some view the Warriors’ upcoming roster as inferior to their previous lineups. In a post shared by NBA on ESPN’s official Instagram account, league reporter David Dennis laid out a harsh reality on the franchise.

On the other hand, Golden State will enter the 2024-25 season with a renewed roster after a disappointing 46-36 campaign a year ago. Surrounding Curry is a revamped supporting cast, including the continued development of Jonathan Kuminga and newcomers like Melton, Hield, and Anderson. However, their failure to land All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen may have lowered their championship ceiling next season.
While the team may have lost some key pieces from last season, the additions could provide more two-way value and secondary playmaking. With Curry leading the way, there’s still a way to make this year’s offseason a success, even without landing a big name in free agency this year.
