In the weeks leading to Klay Thompson’s divorce from the Golden State Warriors, numerous storylines emerged about how their relationship had turned sour through the years. Simply put, Thompson reportedly no longer felt like a valued member of the squad.
Despite how things turned out, however, the Warriors are gracefully reflecting on everything Klay has done for the franchise in the 13 years he spent in the Bay Area. On Monday night, just hours after it was confirmed that the two-time All-NBA shooting guard has agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State released a heartfelt statement on the departure of a Warriors legend.

The Warriors took to X, formerly Twitter, to issue their farewell message for Thompson. In it, the organization claimed that Klay’s “legacy will live on forever” and that the Warriors “look forward to the day we can retire his #11 jersey at Chase Center.”

I’m pretty sure more than a few Warriors fans will be left choked up after reading that emotional statement. After all, Thompson is without a doubt one of the most influential players in franchise history. In fact, you could argue that Golden State would not have won four championships in eight years had it not been for Klay.
Thompson had been synonymous with the Warriors dynasty, and now the Dubs will need to move on without him. It’s a sad day for Golden State.
