Apparently, the Golden State Warriors are not close to securing Klay Thompson to a new contract. Despite the fact that the five-time All-Star has been a pivotal piece for the Warriors dynasty, it now appears that his time in the Bay Area has run its course.
Given his credentials as well as what he can still bring to the table, it comes as no surprise that there are more than a few teams out there that are interested in his services.
Golden State Warriors News: Klay Thompson Has Mutual Interest With Dallas Mavericks

One team that has now emerged as a prime landing spot for Thompson is the Dallas Mavericks. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, there is a “strong mutual interest” between both parties:
“With the Warriors and Thompson nowhere close to a contract agreement after a tumultuous season marked by fractious negotiations, multiple sources have indicated that the Mavericks are likely to emerge as the favorite to sign the shooting guard,” Stein wrote (h/t Basketball on X).

The Mavs are coming off a heartbreaking NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics, and they’re doing everything they can to build on the momentum of their botched title run ahead of the new season. Adding a bona fide stud like Thompson would surely help their cause.
Dallas, however, will need to contend with multiple teams if and when Thompson hits free agency. There are a lot of other teams out there who would benefit from having a guy like Klay on their squad, which is why it won’t be surprising if this ends up becoming a free-agency sweepstakes between multiple sides.
