One of the reasons why the Golden State Warriors didn’t get Lauri Markkanen this offseason was their high outlook on Brandin Podziemski. After weeks of speculation, the team decided that keeping him and Jonathan Kuminga was the right way to go instead of seeking another star.
After making the NBA All-Rookie First Team, averaging 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game on 45.4 percent shooting from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range last season, the Wisconsin-born guard will take on a larger role following the departure of club icon Klay Thompson this summer.
With that said, Golden State Warriors fans can expect more from Brandin Podziemski, and according to the guy himself, head coach Steve Kerr challenged him to shoot more this upcoming season.
“A big focus for them was me shooting more 3s. I don’t know what I shot, but I shot a pretty good percentage. I just didn’t get up enough attempts,” Podziemski said, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “They want me to take anywhere (from) eight to 10 per game. That’s what they told me. All different types: off-dribble handoffs, off-ball screens, catch-and-shoot. I think I can get to that amount.”
Brandin Podziemski will face competition in the Golden State Warriors depth chart
While Brandin Podziemski is the favorite to start alongside Stephen Curry in the backcourt next season, the Golden State Warriors have options if they don’t click.
This summer, the Golden State Warriors brought in Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson, who could share the scoring and ball-handling load with Brandin Podziemski.
Overall, this is a good problem if you’re head coach Steve Kerr, as this will help the Golden State Warriors compete in the stacked Western Conference.
