While Stephen Curry has played the point guard position the entirety of his NBA career, many view him as a combo guard type of player. Others view the Golden State Warriors star as a shooting guard because of his immense talent in making shots from beyond the arc.
On Thursday, former NBA player Chandler Parsons argued that Curry is the greatest point guard of all time. Although he’s not the traditional point guard who facilitates every trip down, he does some of the responsibilities on the floor most of the time. The only thing different with him is his ability to take over games with incredible shooting from beyond the 3-point arc.

“I think he’s the best point guard, and I think he’s been a starting point guard his entire career and Klay Thompson’s been the two guard,” Parsons said. “It’s hard to say he’s not a point guard when he’s legitimately played that position his entire career.
“Can he play the two guard and play off the ball and come off all these screens and staggers and player screens? Yes. But Steph Curry is a point guard, he brings the ball up majority of the play. He initiates the offense. He’s been the starting point guard for the Golden State Warriors his entire career.
Parsons said that just because he shoots better than other guards doesn’t mean he should be labeled as a shooting guard.
“You can’t just — because of his excellent ability to shoot the basketball, put him as a shooting guard. He’s a point guard and he is the best point guard of all time.”
Aren’t all guards technically shooting guards? How else would Steph, A.I., Luka, Kyrie or Dame score? 🤷♂️ pic.twitter.com/34giI3mxJ5

Curry remains listed as a point guard but has a different display of greatness on the court.
Golden State Warriors star believes Curry should be in the GOAT discussion

Curry’s name doesn’t always get brought up in the GOAT discussion. However, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is the most recent former player who has mentioned the Golden State Warriors star in the same breath as Michael Jordan, Lebron James and other great stars.
With this, it created a topic about where Curry lands on the GOAT list. Draymond Green agrees that his longtime teammate should be considered one of the greatest players of the league. In the newest episode of his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show,” the four-time champion brought up the topic of Curry’s place in the history books.
While he’s already considered the greatest shooter of all time, his accolades could be enough for him to be in the GOAT conversation.
