“The Greatest Shooter God Has Created”
Stephen Curry is clearly the all-time leading three-point shooter in the NBA. Being dubbed as “the greatest shooter God has created” by Stephen A. Smith and many others, Curry has cemented himself into the record books and undoubtedly, the hall of fame. Now, four-time world champion is ready to make yet another mark on NBA history on Thursday vs the Kings.
Back on Dec.14 2021, Curry became the official all-time 3-point leader when he broke Ray Allen’s previous record by recording his 2,974th career three-pointer. Allen’s record had held for over a decade before Curry came into the league. But with his insane shooting ability, coupled with his smooth ball handling and unparalleled off-ball movement, Curry overtook the record and created a new one with every three-pointer made. Now his sights are set on a new milestone: 4,000 career three-pointers.
Curry was the first player to reach 3,000 career threes and was joined later by James Harden is second all-time with 3,124. But nearing 4,000 career threes, he’s the only player in NBA history that’s ever accomplished such a feat. What makes the accomplishment even more special is that it comes just weeks after LeBron James hit 50k career points, showing that the old rivals can still make history.
The “Lethal” Three-Point G.O.A.T

James infamously commented on an episode of The Shop that Stephen Curry is the one player he wants to play with the most in today’s NBA. “I love everything about that guy. Lethal. When he get out of his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena. Right as soon as he get out of his car, you better (guard him). … You might want to guard him when he get out of the bed.”
With every single made three-point shot from now until the rest of his career, the record will grow, and the bar will continue to be raised. He credits his consistent work ethic and dedication often and says that his lack of natural gifts contributed to his rigorous work regimen.
“I was the scrawny, undersized kid and I was the smallest on my team every team I played… It kind of unlocked the superpower of work ethic and confidence and perseverance because nothing was really given to me.”
That superpower has gotten Stephen Curry to over 25k career points (25,041), a career average of over 42% from three-point range, 4 championships and an unanimous sport in the Hall of Fame when it’s all said and done. Nine-time All-Star Paul George talked about the impossible standard Curry has set for those who wish to be like him someday.
“When it’s all said and done, and Steph’s career is over with, then I think he, he’s for sure got [_] on his resume that he can add to that goat conversation… he’ll go down as the best shooter in league history. Nobody I think is catching his three points made in a whole span of a career”
George’s words echo what almost everyone in the basketball world has said for many years: when it comes to shooters, he’s without question the G.O.A.T. Head coach Steve Kerr played with someone who many see as the greatest player ever in Michael Jordan and sees many similarities in terms of their impact and draw.
“He’s a modern MJ… I saw it on the Bulls, where half the crowd would have on red 23 jerseys, and now half the crowd’s got blue and yell 30 jerseys…He transcends the game. He elicits an emotion from people I think because he’s so awe inspiring with his play that no matter where we go there are people who are cheering for him and can’t wait to see him perform because we’ve never seen anything like him.”
Can Stephen Curry Hit 5,000?

In the last five seasons, Stephen Curry has averaged 300 three-pointers per season. Should he play for another three or four seasons, he could eclipse 5,000 and set the record to an almost unfathomable number. Depending on how the rest of the season goes, he could get to around the 4,100 mark. Taking his average of three-pointers made per game over the last five seasons (4.8) he’ll get to around the 4,100 mark in about 20 games. If his average remains similar to what it is now, then he will reach the 5,000 career threes in 209 games which is about two and a half seasons.
