The Golden State Warriors received some tremendous news on Sunday after it was revealed that Draymond Green is now set to rejoin the team.
The former Defensive Player of the Year has been serving a league-mandated suspension after striking Phoenix Suns big man Jusuf Nurkic during a game on December 13. The NBA has now decided, however, that Green can return to the court after serving a 12-game suspension.
NBA Reinstates Draymond Green
Green wasted no time rejoining his team. He took part in the Warriors’ walk-through on Sunday afternoon prior to their game against the Toronto Raptors. The 33-year-old also joined his team on the bench against the Raptors but was not able to play in the game.
Head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters before Sunday’s contest, and the four-time NBA champion shot-caller could not hide his delight amid Green’s return:
“Everybody is excited to see him,” Kerr said, via Kendra Andrews of ESPN. “He’s one of our leaders and he’s happy to be back. So it’s a good vibe.”
The Warriors are now expected to ease Green back into the mix as they look to get him back into game shape. Per ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski, Green will need approximately a week to get ready to play again.
“He’ll work with [trainer] Rick [Celebrini] every day,” Kerr said Sunday. “Get lots of shots up, scrimmage, but I have no idea when all of that will be.”
Golden State Warriors Get Blown Out at Home by Raptors
It goes without saying that the Warriors will need Green back as soon as possible, though. Not only did they recently lose Chris Paul to a wrist injury for the next month or so, but the fact that they were embarrassingly blown out by Toronto at the Chase Center on Sunday further adds to their misery.
Green won’t be their savior, but his presence on and off the floor is going to be very important for the Dubs from here on out.
