At this point, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding Chris Paul‘s future with the Golden State Warriors. As a matter of fact, all signs are currently pointing to the notion that the 12-time All-Star’s time with the Dubs has already run out.
For their part, it does not seem like the Warriors have any plans of keeping Paul around for the upcoming season.
Golden State Warriors Push Chris Paul’s Guarantee Date
It has now become abundantly clear that Golden State is doing everything it can to find a trade deal for Paul just one year after adding the 11-time All-NBA point guard to their roster. According to a report by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors have pushed back their decision to guarantee CP3’s deal for 2024-25:
ESPN Sources: Golden State and Chris Paul intend to move back the date to guarantee the $30 million on his 2024-2025 contract to the start of free agency on Sunday. Deadline was originally today. This gives Warriors time to keep exploring trades.

As Woj indicated, the motivation behind this decision is for the Warriors to have more time to seek out a trade deal for Paul. This also likely means that the demand for CP3 on the market isn’t as high as what Golden State is hoping for.
Warriors Are Getting Desperate
At this point, it appears that the Warriors are getting desperate. It’s inevitable that the Dubs will need to lower their asking price for Paul in a potential trade deal, but on top of that, it is now being reported that Golden State is willing to take desperate measures if a trade does not materialize.
This report comes from Kendra Andrews of ESPN:
“There is also still a possibility that Golden State ultimately will waive Paul, giving the team major cap relief. But sources told ESPN that the Warriors wanted to help ensure Paul had a good landing place on another team — if they can find the right deal,” Andrews wrote.
The Warriors are still hoping to find a suitable trade partner for the 19-year veteran but if they don’t, it appears that they are willing to pull out all the stops just to make sure that Paul (and his massive contract) is off their roster by the start of the 2024-25 campaign.
