The Golden State Warriors won’t be losing Klay Thompson for nothing. Despite the fact that Thompson agreed to a three-year, $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks via free agency, the two teams ended up facilitating a sign-and-trade deal, which will now see the Warriors recoup some assets in exchange for their former cornerstone shooting guard.
The full details of the trade deal have now been revealed, and it has now been expanded to a three-team deal involving the Charlotte Hornets.
Dallas Mavericks News: Klay Thompson Sign-and-Trade Details
According to NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors will receive two second-round picks from the Mavs as part of the deal:
“The Mavericks have sent two second-round picks to the Warriors to complete the Klay Thompson sign-and-trade to Dallas, sources said,” Shams reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report added that the two picks Golden State will receive are Dallas’ second-round pick for the 2031 NBA Draft, as well as the least favorable of the Denver Nuggets or Philadelphia 76ers pick in 2025.
For their part, the Mavs won’t be getting anything else in this deal outside of Thompson.
Charlotte Hornets Join the Fray
The Warriors and the Mavs needed a third team to help finalize this deal. This came in the form of the Hornets, who will receive 23-year-old shooting guard Josh Green as part of the deal:
The Hornets are sending out second-round draft capital included in the deal to acquire Josh Green, per league source.

Green, who averaged 8.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in his fourth season with the Mavs last term, is a nice pickup for the Hornets. The former No. 18 overall pick has a lot of upside and has the potential to be a key part of Charlotte’s young core.
