The Boston Celtics’ trip to Carolina for back-to-back games against the Charlotte Hornets was a colorful one. The Celtics took both games, just as many expected. But what surprised a lot of fans was the dirty play of Grant Williams on Jayson Tatum in last Friday’s 124-109 Celtics win.
In what appeared to be an act to score retribution for Tatum against Williams, Celtics guard Derrick White gave the Charlotte forward a shove from the back near the end of Saturday’s 113-103 Boston victory.

With the game all but over, Williams added two points for the Hornets with an easy basket. White then rushed to the baseline looking to inbound the ball, but before that, he pushed Williams to the ground. Williams, of course, did not like it, but a referee immediately got in between the two players to pacify the situation and prevent it from getting more serious.

Williams did not make much of an impact on the game, as he only scored five points on 2-for-6 shooting from the field while also finishing with a minus-8. White, on the other hand, fared so much better, as he generated 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists two blocks, and a steal in 34 minutes.
If there’s one thing everyone learned about these pair games between Charlotte and Boston, it’s that Williams is not much of a liked person today among Celtics players — and fans.
