Hailey Van Lith, TCU Horned Frogs guard, was recently named ‘Player of the Year’ in the Big 12 conference. While this is indeed a great thing for the team, several were not happy with the news, especially since Hith is in her fifth year of college basketball out of choice. While Hith joined the TCU Horned Frogs in 2024, she played for the LSU Tigers from 2023 to 2024, and before that was part of the Louisville Cardinals from 2020 to 2023.

With Hith and Sedona Prince leading their offense, the TCU Horned Frogs are currently reigning in the Big 12 table with a 16-2 conference score and 28-3 overall on the season. In the ongoing season, Hith is scoring an average of 17.6 points in each game, while grabbing 4.4 rebounds and assisting 5.4 times in every matchup.

“I did go to the Olympics this summer so, I’m doing a lot of things outside of college that other people aren’t doing. I think people only say that about me because I am one of the ones that they’re paying a lot of attention to. There’s a lot of girls that are taking their fifth years, and there’s a lot of girls that are having success I’m having that are taking their fifth years. It’s just a new norm, it’s what’s going to happen now. It’s funny to see people react and think about it negatively, but when you really analyze it, a lot of comes to frustration that they didn’t have that opportunity. I’m not gonna allow people to make me feel bad because I was blessed with this opportunity to play five years. So, I think it’s a great thing,” Hailey Van Hith remarked during the press conference after receiving her award.
