Houston Rockets news: It comes as no surprise that there’s an overwhelming hype surrounding Team USA and their quest for a gold medal in the upcoming Olympics. The Americans get their first test on Wednesday when they face off against a star-studded Canada side that is led by the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray.
Another big name on the Canadian roster is none other than Rockets forward Dillon Brooks. As expected the outspoken veteran had a special message for Team USA ahead of their upcoming exhibition clash.
Houston Rockets News: Dillon Brooks’ Message for Team USA
The last time Canada took on Team USA, it was Brooks who led the underdogs to an upset victory in the third-place matchup of the FIBA World Cup last year. The Rockets star exploded for 39 points to carry Canada to an unexpected victory against a heavily favored USA side.
Brooks is now looking to repeat this same feat on Wednesday:
“I take it as (just) another game, but me being who I am, I like to make a statement,” Brooks said, via Sam Amick of The Athletic. “So I’ll be ready to play. Team Canada will be ready to play, and we’re gonna go balls to the wall and watch the film after and see if we got better.”
The likes of LeBron James and Stephen Curry were the first to commit to Team USA’s Olympic journey not long after Canada’s upset victory. For his part, Brooks is just glad to get the opportunity to face the NBA’s top superstars on the international stage:
“Well at the beginning, it was Steph and LeBron that came out and said something, and then everyone else started joining on,” Brooks continued. “I’m happy that they made the commitment, so let’s see. Talent against talent.
“They’ve gotta guard. They’ve gotta play defense. That’s my main thing. Every team that has to play against us has to guard, has to scout against us. And we’re just going to play our game and make adjustments during the game.”
