The Houston Rockets are on a three-game winning streak, and things could get better for them for this Wednesday night’s meeting against the Phoenix Suns at Toyota Center in Houston, especially if star point guard Fred VanVleet returns to action.
The former Wichita State Shockers court general has not played since a March 1 game against the Sacramento Kings, as he has been dealing with an ankle issue.
In fact, he missed 11 straight games before the showdown versus the Kings, only to miss five more games since. He is listed as probable for the Suns game at the time of this writing.
For what it’s worth, it seems that VanVleet is getting close to returning.
Via Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle:
Ime Udoka said that the Rockets had a light practice today and that Fred VanVleet fully participated. VanVleet’s status for tomorrow’s game vs. Phoenix will depend on his recovery.

Houston Rockets’ Fred VanVleet could make his return this Wednesday

A potential return by the 2019 NBA champion can mitigate the impact of Amen Thompson’s absence. Thompson is expected to miss up to 14 days because of a sprain in his left ankle.
Now in his second season with the Rockets, VanVleet is averaging 14.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game, so far in the 2024-25 NBA campaign.
He has been struggling with his shot, as evidenced by his mediocre 38.3 field goal percentage and 48.5 effective field goal percentage, but he still brings a lot to the table for Houston, which is fifth in the Western Conference standings with a 40-25 record.
