WNBA legend Sue Bird will manage the USA women’s national team for the 2028 Olympic cycle. She won five Olympic gold medals and four World Cup titles playing for Team USA.
Sue Bird has a new role with the USA Basketball women’s team: “I love representing my country. I love being competitive on that stage. To have that opportunity to do it in a different role is exciting.”
Bird’s Decision and the Responsibilities That Come with It
This appointment designates her as the first managing director of the USA Women’s Basketball Team. The announcement was made during a press conference hosted by USA Basketball at BlueStar Media, located at NIKE’s New York Headquarters.
Bird will assume the responsibility of identifying the coaching staff and players for the USA Women’s National Team as they prepare for major international competitions, including the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. She is following a path similar to that of Grant Hill.
The Intrigue of the 2028 USA Women’s Basketball Team and the Selection Process
The 2028 team is anticipated to be the most thrilling in its history. The decision made during their previous selection has been widely criticized; however, it is unlikely that the team will openly admit this error.
