The Dallas Mavericks lost Kyrie Irving for the season on Monday night when he suffered a torn ACL. Per Shams Charania, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, the Mavs 2023 first-round pick has been ruled out for the season with ligament damage in his right wrist.
Those injuries complicate a Dallas team that is in 10th place in the Western Conference and is on the cusp of making the Play-In Tournament. The Mavs have dealt with injuries through the season, as Luka Doncic was sidelined from Christmas until they shipped him to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.
Davis played 31 minutes for the Mavs before suffering a left adductor injury that has kept him sidelined.
The Dallas Mavericks made an announcement

Per Joey Mistretta of Clutch Points, Dallas announced Davis is improving and has been cleared for more on-court movements.
“Anthony Davis is ‘improving’ and has been ‘cleared for more dynamic on-court movements’, the Mavericks announce,” Mistretta posted on X.
NBA News: Anthony Davis’ return timeline is still unknown

While the Mavs had positive news for Davis’ recovery, it’s unclear when the star center can return to action.
“For those asking if Anthony Davis will play again this season, I don’t know the answer,” Mistretta posted on X. “The Mavericks did not give a specific injury timeline for a return. All we know is that he is “improving” and that updates will be provided weekly with just over a month remaining in the regular season.”

The smart move for Dallas would be to let Davis rest and recover this season.
Without Irving, the Mavericks don’t have a case to be contenders in the playoffs, should they advance from the Play-In Tournament. The Mavs need to keep Davis healthy for next season or a potential trade in the summer.
