The ongoing WNBA Rookie of the Year race is heating up between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, as they continue to one-up one another.
After Angel Reese set the new Chicago Sky franchise record for most offensive rebounds in a single season (118) yesterday, this time it’s Caitlin Clark’s turn, as she made history anew. More importantly, unlike Reese, Clark won the game.
During the Indiana Fever’s 98-89 win over the Phoenix Mercury, Clark notched 29 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds.
This is her fourth game with at least 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists this season, a new WNBA rookie record, breaking Diana Taurasi’s previous mark (3) in 2004. Clark also became the first rookie in WNBA history to record at least 450 points and 200 assists in a season.
Not too long ago, Caitlin Clark received the most WNBA All-Star votes and broke the record for most assists in a single game with 19 against the Dallas Wings, surpassing Courtney Vandersloot’s previous mark (18) in 2018.
Can Caitlin Clark carry the Indiana Fever to the WNBA playoffs?
The Indiana Fever haven’t been to the playoffs since 2016 when they lost to the Phoenix Mercury in the first round.
They improved to 12-15 after they beat the Phoenix Mercury yesterday. As things stand, they are the seventh seed and on track to return to the postseason.
Caitlin Clark is doing her part to make it happen, averaging 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 40.9 percent from the field in 27 WNBA games thus far.
