While many expected Caitlin Clark to dominate in the WNBA right away, the reality is she and her team are having a hard time getting some wins. For head coach Christie Sides, though, they should focus more on playing rather than arguing with referees and getting technical fouls in the process.
Before Clark made her way to the WNBA, she helped the Iowa Hawkeyes become contenders in the NCAA Tournament during her stay there. In her final year there, the point guard broke Pete Maravich’s old record and became the league’s all-time scoring leader.

Even though Clark and the Hawkeyes failed to end their run with a championship after they lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks, she was still selected first by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft. From that point on, people have looked forward to seeing the star perform at the professional level.
However, Clark and her team have just one game in the eight they have played so far. During that stretch, the rookie averaged 17.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. She’s also connecting 38 percent from the field, 31 percent from deep, and 88 percent from the free throw line.
Indiana Fever Christie Sides Gets Real on Caitlin Clark’s Issues With Referees

After the Fever’s recent loss, head coach Christie Sides spoke to the media and gave her thoughts on the team’s constant concerns about officiating. In a tweet by Matthew Bryne on X, she expressed her thoughts on the matter.
Christie Sides: “We’re spending too much time talking to the officials. We’ve got to leave that alone. We’ve got to just play our game and let them do their job and not put it in their hands… We shouldn’t get technicals. Let me get the technicals,” Bryne tweeted.
So far, Clark is averaging 3.3 fouls per game and has amassed 26 in total after playing eight games as a pro. If Sides is to be followed, the rookie may have to shoot the ball better than spend time arguing with officials.

Even though Clark and the Fever haven’t lived up to expectations, there’s still time for them to improve. If they do, expect a lot of positive buzz to come along their way.
