The Indiana Pacers‘ pursuit for the 2024 NBA title ended Monday night when they absorbed a 105-102 home loss in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference finals series against the loaded Boston Celtics. Not many expected the Pacers to upset Boston in the conference finals but the fact that they made it that far in the playoffs showed Indiana is on the right track.
The Indiana Pacers Still Believes Despite Sweep in 2024 Eastern Conference Finals Against the Celtics
One of the Pacers’ key players in the playoffs, Aaron Nesmith, believes that despite getting swept by the Celtics, the Pacers proved that Indiana has what it takes to become a perennial contender in the East.
Via Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star:
“I think we all learned that we belong here,” Nesmith said. “I think we had a great season. We’re a great team. We know we can play at this level and we know there’s stuff we can learn and get better at. We’ll do that this summer and I think we all expect to make another deep run next year.”
In the Celtics series, Nesmith averaged 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game.
Even though they failed to win a game in the conference finals, the Pacers had already shocked the NBA world by taking down the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round and the New York Knicks in the second roun in which they had to battle back from a 2-0 series deficit. And outside of their Game 2 loss in the East finals, the Pacers did not lose by more than five points versus the Celtics.
