The Indiana Pacers will look to build off their deep playoff run last season, where they made it to their first Eastern Conference Finals in 10 years. And according to Pascal Siakam, the team is just getting started.
The one-time NBA champion was recently seen speaking to his younger Indiana Pacers teammates during a training session, where he explained his mindset heading into the 2024-25 campaign.
“We can’t go into it thinking like, ‘Oh, we did so well last year’… It doesn’t work like that. Whatever we did last year, we gotta do that sh*t triple to even get to where we were,” Siakam said via his X account (formerly known as Twitter).
“Buying into your role and trying to maximize that, and maybe it’s not the thing you want to do, but it’s going to push our team in the best direction. As you kind of advance your role, they might give you a little more leeway. But you have to buy in and maximize your role every time you’re out there,” Andrew Nembhard added in the video.
The Indiana Pacers this offseason so far
Besides signing James Wiseman to a two-year contract, the Indiana Pacers didn’t make any new big additions this summer. Instead, they kept their core by locking their key players to long-term extensions.
Pascal Siakam was signed to a four-year, $189.5 max extension, while TJ McConnell and Obi Toppin were also given four-year deals, and Andrew Nembhard was given a three-year, $59 million extension.
Tyrese Haliburton must also remain fit for Indiana because a leg injury hampered him last postseason.
