San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan has suffered a setback after he fractured his left thumb following the team’s 113-104 loss against the Los Angeles Clippers. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported about the injury update and said the power forward will require surgery within the week.
Due to a proximal phalanx, the Spurs have not issued a schedule for Sochan. The injury reportedly happened during a screen near the opposing team’s bench before halftime. With 3:31 minutes remaining in the second quarter, the forward left the game. The forward from Poland didn’t play again.
The forward only had four points, three rebounds and a steal in the team’s loss against the Clippers.

More bad news for the San Antonio Spurs regarding Gregg Popovich’s health
The San Antonio Spurs received more devastating news regarding their longtime head coach Gregg Popovich. According to Charania, the organization is experiencing a “great deal of concern” regarding the health of Pop.
“It was a health issue and it was a serious health issue that the Spurs dealt with and Gregg Popovich dealt with over the weekend. It was a situation on Saturday night, pregame, that Gregg Popovich needed medical attention in San Antonio,” Charania said. “It is still uncertain when he’s going to make it back on the floor, on the sidelines for this team.”
“There is a great level of concern around the situation for the Spurs, for Gregg Popovich. In the meantime, assistant coach Mitch Johnson has stepped in as the acting interim head coach.”

While Pop recovers from the health issue he’s dealing with the Spurs have appointed Mitch Johnson as the interim head coach. There is no timetable for when the NBA’s winningest head coach will return.
On Saturday, Johnson had his first game as the interim head coach, leading the Spurs to a 113-103 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Veteran point guard Chris Paul spoke highly of the coaching job that Johnson did in the absence of Pop.
“Mitch did a great job,” CP3 said. “Things happen within this league all the time, and just like with players it’s ‘next man up.’ So shout out to Mitch.”
Pop has been the head coach of the franchise since 1996. He’s been named the league’s Coach of the Year three times (2003, 2012, 2014) and won the title five times.
