Ja Morant seeks to return to his dominance again as he returns to the court this season. Known for his monster dunks and fierce playstyle, Morant got himself the attention of former US President Barack Obama.
One of the new generation of talented NBA stars, Ja Morant, has already begun showing his unique skills to the court since he played for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2019. Throughout his career, Morant brought his team into back-to-back playoff appearances in three seasons.
The former Murray State Racers’ abilities recently became the discourse of Obama during his feature in Tyrese Haliburton’s podcast “The Young Man and the Three,” making honest remarks about the Grizzlies star:
“I’m excited to see what Memphis does this year. Those guys got banged up so bad, but, (Ja Morant) can do some things on that court. I’m glad I’m not his parent, because every time he goes up for one of those dunks you’re worried.” Obama said.
Last season, Ja Morant only played nine games due to suspensions due to his off-court behavior, followed by a shoulder injury that kept him out for the rest of the games. His loss was a significant blow to the Grizzlies, who failed to enter the playoffs for the first time since 2020-21.
Ja Morant shows dominance, returns in good shape
Ja Morant’s return didn’t fail to please his team and fans as he proved to be a threatening player in a close first match against the Utah Jazz. Coming from controversies just months ago, Morant shows dominance on the court once more and wins for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Morant scored a double-double of 22 points and ten assists, followed by five rebounds and a steal for 28 minutes on the court. In the final moments of the quarter, the Grizzlies star even made a daring layup that secured his team’s first win in the season, 126-124.
Other Grizzlies, such as Santi Aldama and Desmond Bane, also assisted with 27 and 24 points, respectively, to take the win. Jay Huff and Marcus Smart also provided shots, while Scotty Pippen Jr. got seven assists.
The challenges of the previous season allowed Ja Morant to recover and reflect on his shortcomings and injuries. He also ensured that his return wouldn’t be another backlash by engaging in intense training. Despite lingering risks of injuries and issues, Morant remains prepared.
The Grizzlies would visit the Houston Rockets on October 26, aiming to secure their second win and begin leading early in the Southwest Division.
