The 2023–24 season has been one that Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies hope to forget about. Aside from the losing season, the former Murray State Racer is plagued with off-court controversies and injuries.
In light of all the things that happened, the two-time NBA All-Star gives a valuable update on the shoulder injury that ended his season in an interview with WPSD Local 6 News.
“I’m really fully ready to go, it’s just building endurance now. So if I had to pick a number, I’d say probably 75%, and I feel like that’s still scary for whoever’s in front of me,” Morant said.
Ja Morant was asked by @TheAdamBWells about his health.

Morant was just able to appear in nine games last season. In the short time he suited up, he provided the Grizzlies with 25.1 points, 8.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds. He also shot 47% from the field and almost 28% behind the three-point line.

Ja Morant to be inducted in the Murray State Hall of Fame
Before entering the NBA in 2019, Ja Morant was a standout player for Murray State, where he played for two years. Right after a subpar freshman year, averaging 12.7 points, Morant turned it up the following season, doubling his point production and averaging a double-double with assists.
In a phenomenal second season, he earned multiple awards, including the OVC Player of the Year, Wooden Award, and All-American honors. These achievements made him the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft behind Zion Williamson.

Fast forward to 2024, and Morant will return to his alma mater to be inducted to the Hall of Fame.
“I just got nervous just now man,” Morant said about being named in the Murray State HOF. “Probably a lot of emotions…You’re going into the Hall of Fame of your college, something everybody’s goal is and something that I was able to achieve, so I can’t wait ‘til Saturday. Looking forward to it, and looking forward to see the turnout. I know Murray State never disappoints.”
Morant’s Murray State impact was indeed memorable, highlighting a 40-point, 10-assist 5 steal game—a feat never seen in NCAA Division I in the last 20 years.
