The Detroit Pistons came out the gates of 2025 with a win against the Orlando Magic, but it came at the expense of a gruesome injury for Jaden Ivey. The former Purdue Boilermaker is now feared to have a season-ending injury just by looking at the slo-mo of the tapes.
Looking at the video footage of Ivey’s injury is Brian Sutterer MD, who has an 810 thousand following on YouTube. As he breaks down what happened, he fears that the Detroit Pistons should be prepared to lose the combo guard for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
“I suspect we’re dealing with here is an ankle fracture plus or minus dislocation. If that’s the case, he’s going to be done for the year if it is an unstable joint with multiple parts of the bone fracture,” said Dr. Sutterer on his YouTube Channel.
However, Sutterer also gives a bit of hope for Pistons fans, as the best-case scenario will have Jaden Ivey coming back late into the season.
“If all that happened were just one of these two parts of the malleoli being broken, there would potentially be a return later this season,” Stutterer said. “But I would ultimately be prepared for this to be a season-ending injury.”
Cade Cunningham remains optimistic on Jaden Ivey’s injury recovery
Cade Cunningham has been having an all-star season, and the Detroit Pistons’ wins are piling up thanks to his backcourt running mate Jaden Ivey. Both players are seen to be getting used to playing with each other, and this was the season that they knew what they could do with their tandem.
However, an injury setbacks the backcourt duo in further polishing their chemistry. Ivey is feared to miss the entire season after colliding his ankle with Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony.
Even with the gloomy future, Cade Cunningham steps on the post-game press conference believing Jaden Ivey will recover from the injury.
“It’s tough on the whole group. To see him hurting like that is tough on us,” said Cunningham. “He’s built for it. He’s gonna shake back. Knowing him-, he is going to work his tail off, he is going to be better than ever when he gets back.”
The Detroit Pistons have already surpassed their previous season’s win total with the victory over the Orlando Magic at 15 and is set to host the Charlotte Hornets next at the Little Caesar’s Arena.
