The Boston Celtics continue to showcase the phenomenal form that allowed them to win the 2024 NBA title against the Dallas Mavericks. A strong 7-1 record during their first eight games in the season assures many Celtics fans that the team is on course to repeat their dominant postseason run last year, with Jayson Tatum a key factor behind the team’s success.
The forward is putting up solid numbers for the C’s this season, and there’s no reason to expect his production to go down barring any unfortunate injury that could affect his performance.
Another reason for the Celtics’ strong start is the camaraderie the roster shares. The front office didn’t make any major changes to the roster that won the 2024 title, and they believe that the current Boston roster has what it takes to bring Banner #19 back.
If you’re looking for more evidence of the team’s fantastic chemistry, Tatum’s promise with one of his teammates should provide you with the answer.
Jayson Tatum discusses promise to Derrick White to wear headbands during Celtics’ game vs. Atlanta
Boston Celtics fans who watched their team steamroll the Atlanta Hawks would notice that their star man was wearing a headband. While players can wear whatever allowed accessory they want, Tatum is not usually known to don a headband during games.
However, he revealed that a conversation with Boston and Team USA teammate Derrick White was the reason for the sudden fashion choice in a game where they stood out without Jaylen Brown.
Per masslive.com’s Souichi Terada:
“On a random day, one of us walks in and we‘re like, ’Yo, we gotta wear a hand band today,’ the other one gotta agree. I made the call today. So I’ll be waiting for him to tell me the next time we gotta wear a hand band.”
Aside from the wholesome interaction, he also talked about how the high chemistry in Boston’s roster has translated to solid performances on the hardwood:
“We generate good shots more often than not for each other. I‘m always on the court with some really talented guys. We know how to play off of each other. So it‘s just a matter of reading the game and trying to attack the disadvantage that they have or whoever we’re trying to go after on defense.”
Tatum’s stat line for the season also shows how well he’s benefitting from the chemistry in the Boston locker room. He’s averaging 30.0 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 5.1 APG, and 1.9 SPG through eight games. You can expect more of the same thing from him and the C’s as they progress through the regular season and prepare for a long postseason run.
