An ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury is no longer considered a career-ending setback in basketball due to advancements in medical technology, surgical techniques, and rehabilitation methods. Modern ACL reconstruction surgery, often using grafts from the patient’s own hamstring or patellar tendon, has a high success rate.
JuJu Watkins sustained her ACL injury during the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Mississippi State. Early in the first quarter, Watkins was driving toward the basket when her right knee buckled as she planted her foot, resulting in a non-contact injury. She collapsed to the floor in visible pain and was later carried off the court by medical staff.

LA Sparks Star Reacts Over JuJu Watkins Injury Video: “STOP!”
Los Angeles Sparks star Dearica Hamby gave her honest take on the injury that happened to JuJu Watkins, and how the entire moment was broadcasted and has now gone viral online across social media platforms. For Hamby, the moment should not have been recorded on camera like it was.
Hamby said in her post on X: “CAMERA PPL, STOP HOVERING OVER PLAYERS WHEN THEY ARE IN PAIN!!!!!”

When someone pointed out to her that it was most likely not the decision of the camera, but that of someone in a higher rank working behind the camera, Hamby clarified that her point still stands: that this should nto have been taken as close as it was.
She responded: “Idc who’s in charge… camera .. production … it’s clear at a certain point it’s not passing. Point the camera at the ground or something.. do the big arena view… you don’t have to be zooming in on her.… she’s clearly screaming in pain.”
