JuJu Watkins might be a better player than Caitlin Clark, said Hall of Fame coach George Karl. On Tuesday, the coach took to X to praise the USC standout, suggesting that she might become an even bigger threat than the 2024 TIME Athlete of the Year.

Currently a sophomore in USC, Watkins is averaging 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Her current stats have significantly improved compared to last season.

“As good as Caitlin Clark is, I’m thinking JuJu Watkins may even be better. She looks to have the size, athleticism and talent to even compete in the NBA at some level!”

Clark’s fans, however, pushed back at George Karl’s remarks, saying that the Indiana Fever star has already proven herself as one of the top players in the WNBA with her being named the Rookie of the Year and part of the All-WNBA First Team. Karl would then backtrack on his initial post with a follow-up on Wednesday.

“People need to chill about sports!” Karl said anew. “Caitlin is great, JuJu is great and women’s hoops is growing. JuJu could play at a highly competitive level—maybe G League and Euro League. Maybe NBA? I’ve coached 2K NBA games, but i could be wrong! It’s just my opinion!”

JuJu Watkins becomes an investor in the Unrivaled League

JuJu Watkins is still only a college sophomore, but she’s already helping in funding professional sports. Joining Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, South Carolina coach Dawn Staley, and Olympic champion Michael Phelps, the USC star is one of the latest to invest in the Unrivaled Basketball League.

The women’s 3×3 basketball league established by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart announced on Monday a new round of investment, including that of Watkins, bringing their total capital to $35 million.

Appearing on Wednesday’s episode of “Good Game with Sarah Spain,” Watkins briefly talked about her decision to support the upcoming tournament and if she will be joining the league after her college stint.

“Yes, yes, for sure [I have plans to play in Unrivaled],” Watkins said. “I’m just really committed to try to grow the game as best as I can and if I’m able to do that now, of course that’s what I’m gonna do. So I was super excited to be a part of this new wave and hopefully be playing in the league some day.”
