Las Vegas Aces’ Kate Martin and Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark’s friendship go way back since they were Iowa Hawkeyes teammates. Despite competing for different teams now and having their respective busy WNBA schedules, the two still manage to keep in touch with each other, as evidenced by Martin’s comment on Clark’s latest Instagram post.
The Fever rookie’s Instagram post on Monday marks her first one after a full month. She shared some pictures from their games in the past month as the team rose up to a record above .500 and made it to the playoffs.
“You amaze me,” said Martin on Clark’s post.
Aside from Kate Martin, Clark’s post also garnered comments from Aliyah Boston, Flau’jae Johnson, Liz Kitley, Jada Gyamfi, and Gabbie Marshall among other women’s basketball personalities.
Clark and Martin spent four seasons together in college and have been close friends throughout their rookie season in the professional league. The Fever selected Clark as the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and she took the team to new heights this season with her record-breaking performances. Meanwhile, Martin was outside of the Aces’ rotation most of the season.
Caitlin Clark averages 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists, and 1.3 steals this season, compared to Kate Martin, whose 2.4 points and 1.5 rebounds on 10.9 minutes in 33 games are inferior to Clark’s.
However, Martin’s Aces (25-13) have more wins than Clark’s Fever (20-19). Both teams are locked for the playoffs. If the Aces move to the third seed, they would face the Fever in the first round of the postseason games.
Caitlin Clark says playing against ‘best friend’ Kate Martin felt ‘weird’
Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark recently caught up with each other when the Indiana Fever hosted the Las Vegas Aces in back-to-back games on September 13 and 15.
The Fever lost both games to the visiting Aces, but Clark enjoyed seeing Martin despite her being with the opposing team. She said she loved sharing the court with her former Iowa Hawkeyes teammate though she also found their matchups in the WNBA weird.
“It’s definitely fun for us, it’s fun for a lot of fans in the Midwest that cheered us on while we were in college. It’s cool to see one of your best friends live out her dream and then get to play against each other,” Clark said.
“At the same time, it’s definitely pretty weird for us. We were teammates for four years, we got pretty used to that,” the Fever’s star rookie added.
