Whenever the name “Kelsey Plum” is mentioned, some WNBA fans would rather talk about one off-season moment from her than all her achievements throughout her career.
That moment came in 2017 when Plum, fresh from being the first overall pick of the WNBA Draft, threw a souvenir shirt during a San Antonio Spurs home game way above the Frost Bank Center stands.

With the way she threw the shirt, one could think Plum would be an Olympic medal contender in discus or javelin throw or even a quarterback for an American football team.

Seven years after that still-viral moment, San Antonio Express’ Mike Finger interviewed Plum on Monday night after Team USA’s debut in the Paris Olympics on her reaction to her T-shirt toss, which remains relevant to this day.
“Honestly, it’s probably one of the highlights of my career,” she said. “I’ve gotten more love for throwing that t-shirt in San Antonio than anything I ever did.”
By the way, asked Kelsey Plum tonight about the video from SA that pops up on this app over and over and over again.

Plum would get to call the Frost Bank Center during the 2017 WNBA season, but the San Antonio Silver Stars franchise transferred to Las Vegas and became the Aces the following year.

Kelsey Plum makes her Olympic 5-on-5 debut
This is the second time USA Basketball called Plum up for national team duties, Olympics-wise but her first with the women’s 5-on-5 team after playing in the 3×3 ranks in Tokyo back in 2021.
In an early rematch of the 2021 final, Team USA made quick work of Japan with a 102-76 at the Decathlon Arena in Villeneuve D’Ascq, France.
The five-foot-eight guard finished with 11 points, going 4-for-6 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 inside the three-point line, three assists, and one steal.
Las Vegas teammate A’Ja Wilson led Team USA with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 13 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.
Breanna Stewart added 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three blocks as the Americans look to retain the women’s basketball title with them.
Brittney Griner and Sabrina Ionescu each tallied 11 points too.
Team USA effectively shut the lights out from Japan in the third quarter, outscoring them 29-18 to open a 79-57 lead.
Next for Team USA is Belgium, which suffered a 69-83 loss to Germany earlier Monday, Thursday night.
After easily hurdling the reigning silver medalist, Team USA is expected to sweep its preliminary group and is on good track to once again win the gold medal.
