Kevin Durant categorically said the other day the 2025 All-Star Game format is not to his liking. Now, the Phoenix Suns star thinks he may have used words that he should have not said.
Appearing at the Kay & Adams show, KD looked back on his previous comments about ASG and admitted that he regrets some of it.
“I probably should’ve said something else, to be honest,” Durant told Kay Adams.
“I should know better. Those are the kinds of conversations you have internally with the guys.”
He added that he could have worded his opinion better since he is one with the NBA.
“I work for the league, basically. I can’t be going up against the league like that,” the Suns superstar explained.
“But that was my true opinion… Four different teams, a couple of games—it’s like a tournament-style. It’s just not really my thing.”
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is adopting changes for the All-Star Game and it seems to be final already.
They are now going to use a tournament style instead of the usual one game trophy. It was East vs West before and then changed to teams led by the top vote getters from each conference.
What was Kevin Durant regretting about his first critique of the All-Star?
Terrible was the word used by KD to describe the new ASG format.
All-Star Game format changing, all the formats — terrible in my opinion. We should just go back to East-West. Just play a game. I think we’ve been trying to bring that flare back somehow with All-Star Weekend, I think we just keep the tradition.
He clarified though that it is just his own take and he could be seeing things differently.
“We’ll see how this one works. You never know, I might be wrong, I’m just another guy with an opinion, but we’ll see how it works.”
KD is not alone in this. Even his teammate Devin Booker wants to stick to the old format.
Los Angeles star Anthony Davis also does not like lit. His teammate Lebron James has a different take. He blames the prominence of three point shot for its lack of competitiveness.
They got to do something. Obviously, the last couple of years have not been a great All-Star game. But it’s a bigger conversation; it’s not just the All-Star Game, it’s our game in general. Our game is, there’s a lot of fuc*ing threes being shot. So it’s a bigger conversation, not just the All-Star game.
