The discussion around the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia and alleged wrongful deportation takes an unexpected turn as sports analyst Mike Florio took an unusual step and commented on the issue, which is usually outside of his niche, that is, sports.
In a recent episode of “Fearless,” analyst and critic Jason Whitlock and his guest host Steve Kim called out Mike Florio on his recent controversial take on the issue of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
“So if Kilmar Garcia comes back and earns his citizenship, I think Florio needs to give that guy an internship, that’s what I think.
“I think he needs I think he should move him into his house,” Whitlock quipped.
“I’m with you on that. Housing is a basic right and a need, and Florio makes a lot of money, gets an NBC check. Put him out there in the spare bedroom.
“What happened to America first?” Kim asked. “What happened to that? This is why I like Donald Trump, he’s not bowing down to the whining. What he campaigned on is what we are getting. I think that’s what many of us great Americans voted for.”
“But with Mike Florio, I’m going to give them credit. They stand by their men, and this is their voting block, this is their constituency, and they will go down with the ship.”
Mike Florio’s take on the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case centered on concerns about the executive branch’s refusal to comply with judicial orders, which he viewed as a fundamental threat to the U.S. government’s balance of power.

Florio argued that Garcia’s deportation, despite court rulings that deemed it illegal, exposed a dangerous precedent in which the executive branch ignores unfavorable legal decisions rather than respecting the judiciary’s authority.
What Happened to Kilmar Abrego Garcia?
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran immigrant who had lived in Maryland for over a decade, was wrongfully deported to El Salvador in March 2025, despite a 2019 court order barring his removal due to the dangers he faced from gang violence.

The Trump administration justified his deportation by claiming he was a member of MS-13, though his wife and attorney vehemently denied the allegations. Garcia was sent to El Salvador’s maximum-security prison (CECOT), where he was held without trial.
The controversy escalated when the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that Garcia’s deportation was illegal and ordered the administration to facilitate his release.

Meanwhile, Senator Chris Van Hollen met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia in prison, confirming that he had been transferred to a different facility and had not communicated with anyone outside of prison since his deportation.
