Things are not so good right now for DeMar DeRozan and the Sacramento Kings. They are still on a slump after failing to snap their losing skid in a 108-103 defeat at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The Kings had each of their starters scoring in double figures against the Nets, including DeRozan, who had 18 points, but they struggled to get buckets when it mattered the most.
During the final three minutes of the fourth quarter, the Kings scored just three points while going only 1-for-9 from the field. Overall in the final period, Sacramento scored just 15 points to 20 by Brooklyn.
That production clearly was not good enough for DeRozan and the Kings.
Via Brenden Nunes of Sactown Sports 1140:
DeMar DeRozan on what led to Sacramento scoring 15 points in the fourth: “Missed shots. Missed free throws. Simple as that.”
“We just couldn’t score when we needed to.”
Sacramento Kings’ lack of scoring in the fourth quarter is hurting them
Sacramento has been hurt of late by its lack of offense in the fourth quarter. In the Kings’ last three games, they averaged just 18.0 points in the final period — the fewest among all teams in the league in that same stretch. No other team put up fewer than 20.0 fourth-quarter points in the same span.
The addition of DeRozan over the offseason was supposed to give Sacramento a reliable weapon in the clutch, which he did in the early goings of the season. Perhaps, DeRozan and the Kings will find their groove next when they welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder in a home game this coming Monday night.
