One of the biggest names in free agency this offseason, Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors and signed with the Dallas Mavericks.
An NBA insider has recently said that Thompson will be a starting player for his new team and play the number of minutes that he wants.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently guested on “The OG Show” with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller. Charania was one of the first to report Thompson’s departure from Golden State, and he revealed on the show Dallas’ plans for the four-time NBA champion.
“He will be the guaranteed starter there. He’s going to be guaranteed whatever it is, 28-30 plus minutes a night. I think that was very important for Klay, playing the minutes he wants to play,” Charania said.
Thompson’s final season with the franchise was marred by discontent and a feeling of disrespect, which led him to leave the squad.
The 34-year-old is no longer the player he was once in defense, but the Mavs will be able to rely on his shooting. As one of the NBA’s greatest shooters, a fresh start with a new team could reinvigorate Thompson heading into the new season, especially with new teammates Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who could spot him anywhere on the floor for open shots.

Why Klay Thompson left Golden State?
In his 13-year career with the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson formed the greatest shooting duo in history with Steph Curry and won four NBA championships. Recently, however, he decided to leave his “Splash Brother,” become a free agent, and sign with the Dallas Mavericks. He signed a three-year, $50 million deal to join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
According to Shams Charania, Thompson’s reason for leaving Golden State was not money but principle.
“That one has a lot to do with principle. I think that one has to do with how he felt with the organization over the last couple of years. When you’re someone who brought four championships there … And then you see (Andrew) Wiggins get a four-year extension, Jordan Poole get a four-year extension, you see Draymond Green get a four-year extension… Then it’s your (Thompson) turn and the Warriors look at the marketplace, and they offer him two years, 48 (million),” Charania said on “The OG Show.”
Considering that he accepted Dallas’ three-year, $50 million contract instead of Golden State’s two-year, $48 million deal, something suggests that money isn’t the reason for Thompson’s departure.
