Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has always been mentioned in the greatest of all time (GOAT) debate. James’ name is often argued against what former NBA star Michael Jordan has achieved in his career. On Wednesday’s episode of “The Mark Jackson Show,” former New York Knicks star Stephon Marbury had high praise for the four-time champion but didn’t choose him as his GOAT.
Jordan remains, in Marbury’s opinion, the greatest player to have ever played. He bases his case on the six-time champion’s exceptional scoring ability, which is also the reason he ranked the late Kobe Bryant as the second-greatest player of all time.
“Michael Jordan,” Marbury said when asked who his GOAT pick is (1:00:17).
“I love other people’s answers when they say different. When they say somebody other than Jordan and Kobe [Bryant]. I mean, Jordan and LeBron [James]… I used to never put LeBron with Jordan. I used to always say between Kobe and Jordan, who you think is better?”
“I picked Jordan first but I think picked Kobe second and I couldn’t pick him first because he’s a copy. It wasn’t original but he had originality in his game… When I look at Kobe, I’m like, ‘How is LeBron better than Jordan, when he not better than Kobe?’”
Marbury had great things to say about James, despite his minor jab at the Lakers star.
“LeBron James is the best all around player that this game will ever see, it won’t be nobody like him. But he will never be better than Michael Jordan.”
LeBron James made history in the Lakers’ win against the Spurs
LeBron James again made history in the Lakers’ 119-101 win against the San Antonio Spurs. James surpassed Spurs’ own Tim Duncan in the all-time wins list, putting him in the second spot.
HISTORY! With Los Angeles’ WIN over San Antonio, LeBron James has passed Tim Duncan for No. 2 on the NBA’s all-time wins list (regular season & playoffs) with 1,159 career wins.
LeBron is now 70 wins behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for No. 1 on the list (1,228 wins).
