The New York Knicks and veteran head coach, Tom Thibodeau, are agreeing to a long over-do contract extension set to be valued at over $10 million a year.
According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, an agreement is set to take place in the “near future”.
“There was a strong expectation in the desert that a contract extension for Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau will be announced in the near future.
“Thibodeau would be entering the final season of his original five-year contract without an extension but has been regarded for weeks as a lock to receive a new deal that pays at least $10 million annually after leading the injury-ravaged Knicks to just their second 50-win season of the 21st century.” — Marc Stein.
Tom Thibodeau’s Raging Success with the New York Knicks

Entering the last year of his original five-year deal, an extension seems imminent and of the highest priority for this Knicks team.
Thibodeau holds a 175-143 (.550) win/loss record with the Knicks, the only head coach to have a win percentage over .500 since Mike Woodson’s departure in 2013 as well as making the postseason in three of the past four seasons, two of those being second-round appearances with their most recent defeat coming to the hands of the Indiana Pacers in 7 hard fought games between the two franchises.
Now, it’s no secret that the Knicks have entered their names into the ballot of unrelenting contenders this year after securing all-around threat, Mikal Bridges and giving extensions to Jalen Brunson as well as OG Anunoby.
What to Expect from Thibs and the Knicks’ Next Season

With the current pieces the team has, it appears that they hold one of the most balanced and volatile teams in the entire league. One that will surely put up a fight against any other franchise that stands in their way.
After two years of concurrent success, it’s reasonable to see Tom Thibodeau sign one of the largest head coach contracts in the NBA. After all, New York Knick basketball is back and better than ever.
