The Los Angeles Lakers have posted a two-game winning streaking after taking care of business against the Sacramento Kings. Big man Anthony Davis attributes this to their time off which allowed them to build accountability.
AD, who followed up his 40-16 output in dominant victory over the Memphis Grizzlies with a 21-18 night along with six blocks, called his teammate “recovering guys” for stepping up in different roles they are given.
“We had time to clean it up and now we’re just translating it to the court during real games. Practice time helps us. Guys have a recovering mentality, helping each other, knowing that mistakes are going to happen but for the most part, we want to be solid within our defense and our schemes and we’ve been doing that lately,” he said post game.
Everyone seemed to have played the right way on Thursday night, led by Lebron James who had 19,6, and 7. Coach JJ Redick even called it his favorite victory of the season.
D’Angelo Russell was effective again from the bench with 16 points while Gabe Vincent appeared to have found his shooting ability back with 15 points, 12 of them from the three-point line.
What changed for the Lakers according to Anthony Davis?
The spirit in the Lakers organization is changing after they went 1-4 in their last five before the Grizzlies and the Kings victory
Davis continues to produce the usual numbers he’s been producing since the start of the season. James for his part returned reinvigorated after an eight-day break to recover from a foot injury.
But it’s not just these superstar duo that should get credit for the short streak. For Davis, he believes the whole team is now playing with more desperation, especially on the defensive end.
“Nothing really schematically,”when asked by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin about what changed in Lakers defense.
“I think we just covered for each other… We’re playing a little harder on defense, we’re talking more. We’re playing desperate, especially on the defensive end. We just show it. We’re here on some practice days to just go over some things that were hurting us on the defensive end.”
