Anthony Davis’ excellent play for the Los Angeles Lakers this season will automatically earn him a ticket to the 2025 All-Star Game. The big man has been the most consistent contributor for the Purple and Gold this season, and the team will not trade him or LeBron James despite the injury bug constantly affecting the two over the past couple of years.
The Brow is slated to earn his tenth All-Star appearance if he continues his level of production to one of the most glamorous parts of the NBA season. While the All-Star Weekend isn’t vital to LA’s title chase, the festivities celebrate his on-court accomplishments.
However, it seems that he’s not looking forward to this year’s All-Star Game if he does get selected because of the changes done to it.
Anthony Davis doesn’t think highly of the 2025 All-Star Game format
The 2020 NBA champion didn’t mince words with his thoughts on the new All-Star Game format, which is meant to make the games a little more competitive.
Per ClutchPoints’ Joshua Valdez:
“I don’t really like it,” the 2017 All-Star Game MVP admitted. “But we’ll see how it goes this year and see if they change it or not.”
The NBA announced changes to the All-Star Game with hopes that it’ll return to its competitive roots. Valdez detailed the changes the league was planning to implement this year:
“Each team will have eight players and be named for a TNT NBA analyst. The 24 NBA All-Star selections will be divided evenly into three teams, with the rosters drafted by TNT’s Inside the NBA commentators and honorary team general managers Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith,” the announcement reads. “The three analysts will make their respective picks for Team Charles, Team Shaq and Team Kenny live on TNT in the NBA All-Star Draft, which will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 6 just before the network’s doubleheader that night.”
This year’s All-Star festivities will be interesting to watch for hoops fans as Adam Silver and the association look for ways to make the game entertaining. Davis will not be the last All-Star to voice his displeasure at the changes, but a successful Game will quiet all of the criticism.
What’s next for Davis and the Lakers?
The Purple and Gold have an interesting next couple of games.
They will be facing the Sacramento Kings back-to-back up north, followed by a quick home stand against the Detroit Pistons. They’ll be back in Northern California to face the Golden State Warriors before returning home to host the Kings once more.
Davis will be counted on to bring the pain for the Purple and Gold when he becomes available. He’s averaging 27.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.2 blocks a game for the Lakers this season.
