The Los Angeles Lakers’ trade for Luka Doncic sounded like pure basketball fiction when the news about it broke in early February. To many, it still feels surreal that Doncic is now repping Los Angeles others have made all sorts of theories about the real reason why such a trade happened.
Lakers governor Jeanie Buss recently shut down one theory about why the Lakers traded for Doncic, who was sent from the Dallas Mavericks to LA in a three-team transaction that got superstar big man Anthony Davis packing his bags for Texas and also involving the Utah Jazz.

Now that Doncic is a Laker, Buss is more than happy to shout about his acquisition from the rooftops. Buss spoke to reporters Thursday to promote the new Netflix comedy series “Running Point,” inspired by her life running the team. Kate Hudson portrays the character Isla Gordon, based on Buss, who is an executive producer for the project.
“Everyone thinks, ‘Was this trade done to promote the show?’ I don’t think so,” Buss joked.
Luka Doncic trending upwards with the Lakers

In any case, the Lakers got themselves their superstar of the future, assuming that Doncic also signs a massive extension with them. LeBron James is still LA’s leader on the floor, but it will not be long before the seemingly ageless and indestructible four-time league Most Valuable Player leaves LA – and the NBA.
Doncic is starting to find his rhythm with Los Angeles. Over his last two games, Doncic has scored 52 points. So far with his Lakers tenure, the 25-year-old Slovenian is averaging 21.0 points, 8.6 boards and 6.3 assists through seven games.
