Los Angeles Lakers veteran star LeBron James got a new Ken doll after his own likeness, and analyst and critic Jason Whitlock raised the question: is LeBron James a good influence on young black kids?
In one of the recent episodes of his program “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock raised the question of whether LeBron James is a good influence on young black kids or not, in light of the release of a new Ken doll after his likeness.
Whitlock’s guest, author and life coach Shemeka Michelle, gave her honest take on the matter, which she admitted would rely on the answer to one burning question.
“I think he’s a decent role model for young black kids,” Michelle said. “And that depends on whether or not he was actually at those Diddy parties. I mean, because that’s going to muddy up everything if he was there, and he said ain’t no party like a Diddy party.”
“So you know that could mess it all up. I do like the fact that he has a wife and kids and his kids seem to be doing well. I have to give LeBron props for that, for any other thing.”

Life Coach Gets Honest on LeBron James Ken Doll: “He Has Always Played Second Fiddle”
In the same episode of the program, Shemeka Michelle agreed that LeBron James being a Ken doll is fitting for the Lakers star—but not for reasons one may expect.
“I think for LeBron though this is great, you know,” she said. “Because Ken has always played second fiddle to Barbie and that’s just what he’s done to Michael Jordan or even Kobe Bryant. So I think this is great for him.”

Michelle also praised the LeBron Ken Doll, since it has more hair than she expected it to have.
“I’m just glad they gave him hair on this Barbie [doll],” she said. “I was wondering if it was going to be bald in the middle, I wasn’t exactly sure but I like the doll. Actually, I think the doll looks good, you know my first black Barbie didn’t smile? I always tell people she didn’t smile she had like this serious look on her face like she was angry.”
“For $75, I will not be buying that for anyone that is a collector’s item price and I don’t collect Barbie dolls.”

In a statement, LeBron James described his partnership with Mattel as “an opportunity to recognize the powerful impact of role models who instill confidence, inspire dreams, and show kids that they, too, can achieve greatness.”
