LeBron James and his son Bronny James recently made history as the first father-and-son duo that appeared and played in a regular season game, and this sparked the inspiration for many people, including Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders’ son Shedeur Sanders for a potential father-and-son team up in court, too.
Following their historic court team-up during the opening night game of The Los Angeles Lakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron and Bronny Jr. inspired Shedeur Sanders and he is hoping for a team-up with his father, too, retired football superstar and now coach Deion Sanders. He also believes that this historic moment in basketball would inspire his father to take to the field once more, even for only a while.
“I think it’s really inspiring, I think dad thought about coming back,” Shedeur said on a podcast. “You know, one game. He’s just gonna be on kickoff return and just be him. Just to make history. So, I think it inspired him a little bit, you know, to put the pads back on.”

So far, Deion and son Shadeur have had their own father-and-son game relationship, but only as coach and player. Shadeur’s older brother, Shiloh, was also on the same team.
Coach Prime is also in on this idea, as proven by his previous post congratulating Bornny and King James. In his post on X, Coach Prime said “I’m coming back to play with my sons, too!” as he greeted the Jameses on their milestone.
LeBron James and Bronny James: A History in The NBA
“You see the intensity, right?” LeBron asked Bronny, as the audience hyped up for what was coming during the game. “Just play carefree, though. Don’t worry about mistakes, just go out there and play hard.”
While their time together on the court was short (lasting only about 2.5 minutes), the impacted it made in the history of the NBA was not short-lived.
“It’s always been family over everything. I’ve lost a lot of time because of this league and committing to this league, being on the road at times and missing a lot of [Bronny’s] things, Bryce’s things and Zhuri’s things,” LeBron James said in a post-game interview. “To be able to have this moment where I’m working still and I can work alongside my son is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever gotten from the man above, and I’m gonna take full advantage of it.”
